The Family Grain Mill is manufactured in Germany by Messerschmidt. You can customize its components to fit your needs by selecting either a hand crank base, an electric base, or you can use your Bosch Universal or Bosch Universal Plus to drive the grain mill or flaker mill. The grain mill or flaker mill heads now fit directly to the Bosch Universal or Universal Plus without the use of adapters!
There are two milling heads: a grain mill and a flaker mill. Read more about them both below. The milling head's conical steel burrs shear grain without friction, avoiding the heat created by most grain mills that can destroy many of the nutrients in your flour.
Note that the Family Grain Mill (FGM) cannot mill materials that are wet or oily or extremely hard (for a list of grains, see below). The Family Grain Mill's high carbon steel burrs are long lasting and easily replaceable. Family Grain Mill components remove quickly for cleaning. The grain mill head disassembles completely in five seconds.
One cup of fine flour is produced in just 2-4 minutes in hand operation, or 1.5 minutes with the electric drive.
The Family Grain Mill operates quietly and dust-free.

The Grain Mill Head is incredibly versatile when milling. You can adjust from fine for bread flour to medium for cream of wheat type cereals, or choose coarse for cracked grain. This versatile milling head grinds corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, rye, barley, rice, spelt, flax, buckwheat, millet, coffee, kamut, quinoa, and sesame (it doesn't grind popcorn.) It will also mill some chopped, dry, non-oily herbs and spices. Remember, the FGM grinds cool to preserve nutrients and has a large 5 cup hopper capacity.
The Flaker turns soft grains like oats into flakes for recipes and fresh cereals. Oats flaked with the Family Grain Mill oat flaker are thicker, chewier, and fresh - no preservatives added! You start with oat groats. Oat groats are oats with the kernel's indigestible hull removed. They are available from most health food stores and natural food cooperatives.
You can also flake wheat with the Family Grain Mill Flaker by adding 1 tablespoon of water to a cup of wheat berries and allowing to sit overnight in a sealed jar. After rolling moisturized grain, pull the cover off the flaker to be sure nothing moist remains on the knurled roller - this would cause corrosion.
